Alina Vasilchenko: A Railway Platform
Video exhibition online - ongoing from February 2013
Alina Vasilchenko is an artist and film maker based in Moscow. She has a degree in economics from Moscow University and has studied film production at Mosfilm Studio, the oldest film studio in Europe credited with many widely-acclaimed Soviet era films including works by Tarkovsky and Eisenstein. Her videos aim to convey an inherent poetry in everyday encounters, as such the artist makes a purposeful decision to use informal film techniques to create works that mirror reality. This is Vasilchenko's first Invisible Venue project. This web-based project was developed after Vasilchenko discovered Invisible Venue online -- this collaboration exemplifies the extraordinary capacity of the internet to forge connections across social and geographic divides. Her work has been shown at 16th LINE Art Gallery (Rostov-on-Don, Russia) and will be shown at Kolonie Wedding (Berlin, Germany) in April. More examples of Alina Vasilchenko's work can be found on her YouTube page http://www.youtube.com/user/macinema11?feature=watch.
