"Order and Ornamentation"
A site-specific installation and a public intervention by Christine Lee
April 19 - while it lasted*
* Lee's public intervention disappeared on 4/22 and her interior installation lived until 4/29.
Reception for the artist: Sunday, April 19, 2 - 5pm
Project Description: For this collaboration with Invisible Venue (IV), Christine Lee investigates the inherent order of exterior and interior spaces. In this project, Lee creates an aesthetic relationship between the IV project space and an undeveloped adjacent lot. An unsanctioned intervention in the nearby lot incorporates reclaimed carpet remnants arranged in a Victorian pattern historically appropriate to the surrounding 100+ year old homes. This unconventionally "woven" rug is bisected by a pre-existing "desire path" that leads from the industrial area of Seventh Street into the old family neighborhoods of West Oakland.
