Aaron Stienstra is a San
Francisco Bay Area-based artist whose work primarily engages information
design and graphics to illustrate complex scenarios for public consumption. His work has been
reproduced as billboards, web graphics, in legal reports and in the New York Times.
In a 2007 project with Invisible Venue, Stienstra created a guerrilla
billboard intervention sourced from censored media related to the Iraq
war; more recently this spring 2012 Stienstra's "Visitor
Warning," his censored 2005 billboard design about Florida's "shoot
first law," was reintroduced to the public sphere via Facebook, in the
wake of the murder of Florida
teen Trayvon Martin. Stienstra is design director at the Focal Point,
an Oakland-based trial consulting firm. He has created graphics for
numerous cases, including a civil suit against former Haitian warlord
Emmanuel Constant, and maintains an ongoing commitment to produce
pro-bono graphics for the Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence.
