Ernest Jolly: Unfinished Work
With special guest African American historian John William Templeton
San Francisco Maritime Museum
Part of SFMOMA's Meeting Points: Stories in Art from the Urban Frontier
Curated by Deena Chalabi and organized by Stella Lochman
October 17, 2015, 4pm
Begin the afternoon by dropping in for micro-talks at the former post office at Rincon. Explore the history of San Francisco through Anton Refregier's murals as local historian Chris Carlsson, geographer Gray Brechin, art historian Berit Potter, and writer Caille Millner tell their favorite stories of change in the city and reflect on the legacy of the New Deal.
When you are ready to move on from Rincon Annex, be sure to pick up a specially commissioned Can We Talk About Art? map by the artist Amanda Eicher, which charts the locations of conversationalists eager to talk with you about how art matters in our lives today. Use the map to locate an arts commissioner, an F-Train driver, and a park ranger, as well as gallery owners, archivists, curators, and more, and participate in pop-up dialogues as you choose your path to the Maritime Museum.
A new group of presentations at the Maritime Museum includes best-selling local author Gary Kamiya speaking about the hidden aspects of Aquatic Park's cultural history and artist Constance Hockaday on the public value of the waterfront. Artist Ernest Jolly presents a new intervention in collaboration with Invisible Venue in the context of Sargent Johnson's vibrant site-specific works."
